GuruNet Corporation, creators of the Answers.com reference-based search engine, and Shopping.com, a leading online comparison shopping site, are pleased to announce an agreement to offer Answers.com users access to the world’s most detailed product catalog online.
Whether site visitors are seeking information on clothing, electronics, jewelry, tools, books, or items in many other consumer product categories, the new arrangement enables them to identify, research, compare, and purchase products as part of their quest for answers.
“The fact that we’ll be offering the combined services in one place should create a whole new level of user benefit,” explained Jeff Cutler, Chief Revenue Officer of GuruNet. “We look forward to working with Shopping.com and view this collaboration as the first of many such exciting enhancements to Answers.com, bolstering our usable, reliable content, and augmenting our revenue stream. We spent our first quarter developing the Answers.com site, gaining recognition in the industry, and building significant traffic; now we’re ready to leverage that success by increasing the monetization of the site in new, efficient and creative ways.”
Under the agreement, Answers.com will display product information from Shopping.com as a supplement to its content library. For instance, looking up “LCD Projector” on Answers.com will now provide – beyond the Answers.com complete explanation about the device and its technology – detailed information necessary for users to decide whether and where to buy a product, including access to product descriptions, reviews, and comparisons of merchant prices. Answers.com will receive a portion of revenues generated when consumers click through to merchants’ sites.
“Shopping.com is excited about our new partnership with Answers.com, as it will allow us to provide even more consumers with comprehensive, structured product and pricing information while simultaneously helping to expand the reach and effectiveness of our merchant community to Answers.com’s users,” said Iggy Fanlo, president of worldwide field operations for Shopping.com.
The launch is scheduled for summer 2005.
