American Idol Shocker: Constantine Maroulis Dumped!

In a hard to believe vote tonight on Fox Television’s American Idol … it wasn’t bad boy Scott and it wasn’t the young kid Anthony … it was Constantine who had the least votes and is now off the show.

American Idol is under fire about alleged coziness between Paula Abdul and a former contestant … and this result tonight won’t help. How could Scott possibly be one of the top three vote getters after last nights performance? Is the average Idol watcher tone deaf? I doubt it.

Conspiracy theories and controversy abound … could it be that the website Votefortheworst.com is the reason for Scott Savol’s success? The site is getting a lot of publicity and tonights vote makes you wonder if they are having an impact. Take a look at this pledge from their website:

“Why bother voting for someone talented when this show can be so much more fun to watch? Scott Savol outlasting Carrie Underwood or Bo Bice? Now that’s good TV!”

Another theory is that software that allows speed voting is distorting the vote. A press release issued April 22 by a company which makes a product called SpeedVoter states:

“”Most people vote less than ten times right after the show and get tired or watch another show. We need something to balance out the teen vote and this is a cheap, fast and simple method that just might start to influence the show’s results,” Shaper states.

Though his SpeedVoter software, also called IdolVoter, is not the only software for this purpose, he claims it is one of the fastest, clocking a new vote as fast as every 10 seconds. …Just enter the contestant’s number and how many times you want to vote and click ‘vote’.

If anything is going to balance out the strange voting results other than the show’s producers changing the voting methodology, it just may be getting the right tool into the right hands.”

Whatever the reason, there is something strange with this years American Idol vote.
