Amazon is offering a 1.5% for A9 users as long as they register into A9 with their exisiting Amazon ID, according to the Search Engine News Journal blog. The 1.5% discount will be made up in Google AdWords search advertising on A9.com.
On the Search Engine News Journal site they post the following Amazon statement to A9 users:
“[User name], since you’ve been using A9.com recently, virtually everything at Amazon.com is automatically an additional p/2% (1.57%) off for you. Collecting this discount is zero effort on your part. It will be applied automatically at checkout (it will happen whether you use the shopping cart or our 1-Click Shopping). You don’t need to do anything to get this discount except keep using A9.com as your regular search engine.
“We don’t advertise this additional discount that we give in exchange for using A9.com, so if you want your friends to know about it, please tell them. It is probably the only way they’ll find out. All they have to do is use A9.com as their regular search engine. They should make sure they are signed in to A9.com (it should be recognizing them by name) so that we can be certain they get credit for their visit.”
One reader in the WebProWorld forum commented; “That’s innovation for you.
The way things have been going lately, one search engine does something new, the rest rush to follow suit. I wonder if Yahoo or google will pick this idea up to build a little loyalty.
Yahoo could offer discounts through any of their countless merchant partners. Google could appeal to their large eBusiness audience by offering credit toward an AdWords account (Yahoo could do the same with Ov).
This could be the new trend…
And before anyone rushes to say, “It’s only 1.5%”, let me say I know more than a few housewives (or househusbands) who seem to be doing a large portion of the gift buying for the household who will see that 1.5% as a decent incentive. Especially with the economy being what it is (in the U.S., at least).”
