A recent survey conducted by Evans Data Corp. shows that the adoption of Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) is on the rise, especially in emerging markets.
The survey of over 400 developers hailing from Eastern Europe, Brazil, China and India, revealed that in most cases, AJAX adoption was outpacing the adoption rate of North American developers.
China was the lone exception to the rule, with an adoption rate of 16 percent, just two percent below the North American adoption rate of 18 percent of active developers.
The programming platform finds the warmest greetings in Brazil, where a quarter of developers making use of it.
“While we see strong adoption of AJAX globally, our latest research indicates the developer community in the Emerging Markets is embracing this programming model most aggressively,” stated John Andrews, President of Evans Data.
“Given that these developers are spending a majority of their time developing Web Applications, we only see this trend continuing.”
The use of the PHP platform, as of the moment, is far more popular among developers worldwide. In North America, 35 percent of developers are using PHP. But the largest number of developers using the language can be found in Eastern Europe, where usage increases to 39 percent.
In India and Brazil, it is roughly the same with developer usage sitting at a little over 31 percent. In contrast, only 21 percent of Chinese developers are utilizing PHP.
Other findings from the survey:
Forty-two percent of respondents are using Flash, a considerably higher percentage than is found in North America.
Increased usage of Linux for embedded operating systems is expected across all regions. China is leading the way with 39% of developers there projecting growth, while the Eastern European region is the area showing the greatest resistance.
Nine out of ten emerging market developers use Windows as the primary platform on which they host development.
