How can you know what affiliate products will do well for you and which ones will be a dog? You don’t need ESP, you need EPC!
EPC stands for “earnings per click” and it is a figure you can use to evaluate any affiliate opportunity. Here is how it is calculated:
EPC = Total Sales Commissions divided by The Clicks to Site
Here are the results of a recent promotion we did for an affiliate:
Total Sales Commission: $ 249.75 Total Number of Clicks: 291 click throughs
Commissions/Clicks (EPC): $ .86 per click
I look at anything over 50 cents per click a good promotion.
But how can you find out what the EPC is for a particular program? There are several ways…
1. Ask the Affiliate Manager
Most affiliate managers will not give you this information, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Ken Evoy does a good job of providing this information on his website for all of his affiliates to see:

2. Ask someone else who has done a promotion for the site.
This may be one of your best sources of EPC information. When you get an email ad from a newsletter publisher, store it in a file for a couple weeks. Then, email the editor and ask what their EPC for that ad was. Many publishers will give you this information just for the asking.
3. Use Commission Junction.
Commission Junction provides the EPC for all of its programs right on the site. Some programs have EPC’s well over $20. Some have just a few cents. If you haven’t checked out an account with Commission Junction, go to: http://www.CJ.com.
