AdWords Uncorks Campaign Optimizer

Google isn’t saving all the goodies for SES San Jose in August, as they released a new utility for their AdWords clients.

Advertisers on Google’s AdWords platform have a new feature available. The Campaign Optimizer appears in the AdWords management interface, as an option under a campaign’s summary.

Google’s Inside AdWords blog described the process behind the new tool:

Here’s how Campaign Optimizer works: first, the tool analyzes your campaign to see what settings have or haven’t worked well for you recently — this process typically takes a minute or less. Next, it generates a customized proposal of ideas for your campaign aimed at improving your performance. Finally, you’ll be able to review each proposed change and apply the ones you like directly to your campaign.

Campaign Optimizer could suggest changes like changing the daily budget, or adding new keywords that may do a better job of targeting the desired audience. It may recommend adjusting the maximum bid, which we take to mean increasing it.

This automated look at a campaign should be part of one’s overall review, as its advisories complement a site’s strategy. The AdWords team said Campaign Optimizer would be more effective on campaigns that have been running for at least two weeks.
