AdSense Tax Forms On The Way

It looks like AdSense publishers who are dying to get tax refunds won’t owe Google any favors this year; the search giant’s timing is poor compared to any number of banks and other companies.  But Google announced today that it is working on the distribution of tax forms.

Elizabeth Ferdon, who was perhaps charged with keeping the AdSense Payments Team from getting overwhelmed with questions, wrote on the Inside AdSense blog, “This is a friendly reminder that we’re currently preparing and mailing tax forms to eligible U.S. publishers and will be sending them out by the end of January.”

She also added, “Please keep in mind that not all U.S. AdSense publishers will receive a tax form from Google.”  So you should only be watching your mailbox if you “submitted a Form W-9, are not a corporation, and were paid at least US $600 in 2008, OR . . . You indicated that you are subject to backup withholding and had taxes withheld.”

It might be wise to check that Google has your correct address on record, too.

Got it?  Good.  At the bottom of many official Google blog posts, there’s a request for feedback.  This time around, Ferdon politely advised readers, “If you won’t be receiving a tax form, but you still have questions on how to report the payments you received from AdSense, please consult your local tax advisor.”
