A Revolutionary New Use for Email

Share

Before I learned to do HTML coding by hand, I used NetObjects Fusion to help me build my sites. It’s not perfect, but it is one of the better small biz site-building tools.

A few days ago, I received an email from Samir Arora, the Chairman & CEO of NetObjects, Inc. It wasn’t a personal note, just a message to all “users and fans”.

It opened with:

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank YOU for being a NetObjects customer! Thank you for buying our products and services. Thank you for supporting us through the years and helping us revolutionize the Web.”

It ended with:

“Please continue to let me know how NetObjects can better serve your needs. We want to build products and services that you not only use, but love to use, and we can’t do that without you.”

In between, he offered more thanks and a little bit of information.

What was he selling? Nothing.

Any “hot” discounts, specials, or “limited-time offers”? Nope.

Obviously he didn’t write this letter because he was bored. We both know that most business people won’t lift a finger unless it’s to help improve the bottom line.

However, there was something refreshing about his email. No hype, no promotions, no selling. Just a “thank you”.

I receive hundreds of emails each day, which equals more than 100,000 per year. This is the first time I *ever* received a non-promotional “thank you”.

When’s the last time *you* sent an email to your customers saying “thank you”, without trying to sell them something?

Give it a shot. They just might appreciate the gesture.
