5 Interesting Things Regarding Twitter

Not that this is an uncommon phenomenon these days, but there are quite a few Twitter-related news items floating around. I’d like to share some quick notes about five of them.

1. Twitter has surpassed the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal in traffic. This is particularly fascinating given the whole state of the news industry.

2. Twitter has launched full two-way SMS support for Telus, Virgin Moible, and Koodo Mobile, which means Twitter is available on every major operator in Canda. “That means pretty much every mobile phone user in Canada has the ability to send and receive Twitter updates via SMS,” says Biz Stone.

3. One of Twitter’s “trending topics” is #twitterpornnames. Aurora Dizon at PC World writes:

The porn names game has a few variations, but the information that all of the versions elicit is the same. To find your “porn name” you are asked to take the name of your first pet, and combine it with the street you grew up on or your mother’s maiden name. Silly, sure. But look more closely: All of these are common security questions. By playing the game, you could be revealing private information that Web scoundrels could potentially use to access your online accounts and bank information.

Also beware of giving out you email address in Tweets.

4. Astronauts are preparing to tweet from Space. @Astro_Mike is an astronaut who blasted off with his crew yesterday and will be tweeting from earth obrit.

5. Lyris has launched a “Twitter Guage.” According to MediaPost, Lyris says its HQ system now “allows marketers to leverage Twitter as part of their integrated marketing repertoire, expanding their ability to reach and engage with customers, prospects and followers in real-time.”
