In an innovative leap, AOL has embarked on a strategy to become a leading content provider. This involves employing advanced algorithms to pinpoint the type of content the audience craves. This move might remind readers of the rise of horizontal content sites – an expansion strategy that aims to cater to a wide range of topics rather than mastering a single vertical.

The Wall Street Journal notes that AOL’s technology aids the process of creating, editing, and publishing stories. It allows each piece to be dynamically refreshed with synopses, keywords, and location details.

Slated for launch this December, AOL will activate its revolutionary digital-newsroom system. This system leverages an array of algorithms to predict and generate popular content for consumers and marketers. In partnership with this system, AOL’s editorial team, comprised of approximately 500 staff, will assign articles to a network of freelance writers through Seed.com. As of now, this platform hosts about 3,000 freelancers, with plans to significantly increase this pool.
