Reports are surfacing concerning a major update occurring at Yahoo’s search engine. However, some feel this may be just a run-up to the real thing.
According to a WebmasterWorld topic, a number of posters are noticing a great deal of change in Yahoo’s SERPs, while others see these changes as unstable and perhaps setting the table for an upcoming massive result update.
Barry at SearchEngineWatch shares this thinking, saying he believes a larger, more thorough update is expected in a couple of weeks. A glance at the WebmasterWorld thread indicates there is something update-wise going on at Yahoo, it’s just not known whether or not this is a precursor to a larger event.
A particular post may shed some light on Yahoo’s activities however. On April 1st, Yahoo performed a major SERP update, which was followed by what is being called a “half update” a week later. Some feel this second, less thorough update caused some disruption among the Yahoo SERPS. It is speculated that this update is being done to correct what was caused by the incomplete one.
Or Yahoo could just be priming themselves for another major change. We’ll know for sure in the next couple of days. However, because people are noticing sometimes-drastic changes in their search position, I think it’s safe to say an update of some kind is happening at Yahoo.
