Vietnam’s Leading Data Services Provider to Offer Full Range of Voice, Video and Data Services over End-to-End IP Network.

Vietnam Datacommunication Company (VDC), a subsidiary of Vietnam Post & Telecom (VNPT), has made further progress in its migration toward an Internet Protocol (IP)-based next-generation Internet network with additional equipment from Cisco Systems(R) (Nasdaq:CSCO). The advanced network will enable VDC, the country’s main provider of Internet services, to gradually roll out a full range of services, including IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) virtual private networks (VPNs), business-class broadband, and IP telephony to its corporate customers.

The project includes Cisco 12410 routers at the core, Cisco 7600 Series routers at the edge, Cisco 7200 Series access routers, Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series multilayer switches, Cisco access servers and voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, Cisco 7300 Series routers, Cisco security devices, including the Cisco PIX 525 firewall, and Cisco Aironet 1100 Series wireless local-area-network (LAN) access points. These products complement other Cisco equipment in VDC’s network that are used to deliver long-distance VoIP, wireless LAN access, network security, and high-speed Internet access.

“The demand for IP-based services and Internet bandwidth is growing at a tremendous pace in Vietnam, and we have to continue to expand our network to meet the demand,” said Mr. Vu Hoang Lien, managing director of VDC. “In our migration to the vision of the next-generation network, we have found a reliable and committed technology provider in Cisco Systems. They are a clear leader in IP technology with excellent customer support and have shown their commitment to Vietnam with their contributions to education and training.”

Cisco has been working with VDC and its parent company, VNPT, since 1996, in the development of the Internet backbone of the country. Cisco also has several initiatives to encourage the transfer of advanced networking skills to young Vietnamese. Among these initiatives is the Cisco Networking Academy Program, which gives students practical experience and the opportunity to earn an entry-level certification in networking.

“We have seen the Internet develop and grow over the years and the level of interest is astonishing. The VDC has played an important role in the national infrastructure, and their vision is now leading them to next-generation networks. This will help to contribute to the growth of the economy and help foster national prosperity,” said Mr. Robert Hughes, managing director, Cisco Systems Vietnam.

VDC plans to deliver its IP/MPLS VPN service in the next few months, to be followed by a range of services such as IP telephony and managed network services.
