Twitter Phasing Out The Term Updates In Favor Of Tweets

Share

Twitter has changed the word “updates” to “tweets” on user profiles. Though the change seems insignificant, it’s the first time the famed microblogging site has used the term “tweet” on their site.

Don’t you think it was about time Twitter started using the term tweet? Tell us.

Earlier this month Murdok featured an article about how Twitter was applying to have “tweet” trademarked. Twitter’s own Biz Stone had the following to say about it:

“We have applied to trademark Tweet because it is clearly attached to Twitter from a brand perspective but we have no intention of “going after” the wonderful applications and services that use the word in their name when associated with Twitter. In fact, we encourage the use of the word Tweet. However, if we come across a confusing or damaging project, the recourse to act responsibly to protect both users and our brand is important.”

With Twitter just beginning to use the term tweet, will they finally incorporate a “retweet” feature, that so many Twitterers want? What do you think? If so, does this spell trouble for the un-launched Retweet.com? Look at the logo below, see the little TM… I wonder what Twitter thinks about that?

With Twitter finally using the term tweet, how long before they change the text on the oversized “update button”? Let us know what you think.
