The iPhone Gets a New Google Mobile App

Share

Google has announced the approval and availability of its newly updated Google Mobile app for iPhone in the App Store. The app’s enhanced design now displays more search results simultaneously, and allows users to open web pages directly within the app.

Expanding Search Results Display

The overhauled interface of the Google Mobile app facilitates viewing of more search results at once. This feature increases the efficiency of search results, catering to users who demand quicker and more expansive access to information.

In-app Web Page Access

A prominent feature of the app’s update is its ability to open web pages within the app itself, eliminating the need to switch between different apps. This aspect of the update improves the user experience by facilitating seamless navigation and browsing.

Customizable Visual Settings

The app now also incorporates visual customization settings, referred to as ‘Bells and Whistles’. “You can style your Google Mobile App in any shade: red, taupe, or even heliotrope,” says Google software engineer, Alastair Tse. For users with faster iPhones, like the iPhone 3GS, a live waveform setting option is available for voice searches.

Voice Search Optimization

Another significant enhancement includes advanced voice search settings. Users can now select their spoken language or accent to increase recognition accuracy. Tse elaborates, “If you’re Australian but live in London, you can improve the recognition accuracy by selecting Australian in the Voice Search settings.” The update also introduces support for both Mandarin and Japanese languages.

With these updates, Google continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing an improved and user-friendly experience to its mobile app users.

The app also includes “My Location,” which lets users avoid typing their current location when searching for nearby businesses, Google Suggest, which shows suggested queries as the user types, and search history.
