Real-Time Search API Mania

Share

Real-time search engine Collecta announced the release of its API today, meaning developers will be able to use it to pull real-time search results directly into their applications.

Gerry Campbell“The way people interact with content on the Internet is changing. People want the story as it happens, not just the highlights… and they want it where they are — in Twitter, Facebook, MySpace. Everywhere,” says Collecta CEO Gerry Campbell. “Our open technology platform and wide range of relevant content sources enable companies and developers to build a diverse set of real-time data applications that can be distributed across the Web.”

The API is called the “Collecta Results Set” (CRS) API, and the company says developers already working with the Twitter API can quickly expand the capabilities of their real-time apps with this API’s broad base of social media, established news sources, and unique content feeds.

Of course, Collecta isn’t the only real-time search engine out there with an API. In fact, OneRiot, another one we often hear about these days, released one back in June.

Courtney WalshOneRiot actually just announced a Real-time Search Data Visualization Challenge,” in which the company is offering $1,500 to an individual or company that can build “the most compelling data visualization that leverages the OneRiot Realtime Search API.”

OneRiot’s Courtney Walsh says, “We launched the OneRiot API in June 2009 and already have 40+ partners across the web building innovative realtime web applications but this challenge will help make visual sense of the rich information within our API!”

More info on OneRiot’s challenge can be found here.
