Podcasting Tips, Tricks For Viral Promotion

Share

It’s a rare podcaster who would turn down the chance to get new viewers, and most video bloggers are actively trying to expand their audiences.

According to Ben “Bendrix” Williams, there are a few key ways to achieve this growth: “Learn the power of services like Webpasties, Myspace.com, Akimbo and other noteworthy technologies . . .”

Staff writer Jason Lee Miller attended the “Viral Promotion Tips N Tricks for the Video Blogger and Podcaster” session at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo.

Hosted by Williams, the session covered the “tools for webmasters” available at WebPasties, but focused mostly on the power of MySpace.

“I’m offering you a choice,” Williams wrote. “Either follow the current track – or reinvent your marketing strategy to stand out from the crowd.”

He may have felt an extra bit of justification was necessary, after he was apparently left speechless when one audience member asked how to market to the over-30 crowd.

Williams cited former NBA player Dominique Wilkins’s MySpace page as an example of what he saw as desirable. “I think that’s pretty good for somebody that just came out of no where and put some stuff up,” he said.

The page features several videos, and a prominent “subscribe to podcast” link.

Like many others, Williams rejected MySpace at first. He warmed up to the site, though, and now “all of his media properties are available through iTunes, Youtube, Myspace and other online digital outlets,” according to one bio.

Williams is quick to adapt to new technologies, and thinks you should be, too – he urged the audience at his session not to be content with “Feedburner, Itunes, and the iPod.”
