Yes, Jifty is another web application builder, and yes, Hiveminder is another to-do list; but it is Perl that made them possible.
A post by Jesse Vincent at UsePerl announced the public debut of Hiveminder. The site has been quietly online for a while, and is ready for more people to give it a try.
Hiveminder is a to-do service that runs on Perl and Jifty, a web application builder that debuted around Christmas 2005. Jesse provided an overview of Hiveminder at UsePerl:
Hiveminder makes it easy to keep track of everything you need to do and to share tasks with the people you love (and those you just need to do things for you.) You can assign tasks to anyone who has an email address. They don’t even have to sign up for an account.
You can defer tasks until tomorrow, next week or next year, with a click of your mouse. “But first” and “and then” links on every task make it easy to procrastinate…er, to model complex projects.
Hiveminder enables its users to tag their lists for easy classification. The lists they create can be syndicated through Atom or iCal feeds. Users can send the lists to text files (where they will likely do something with them in Perl of course) or simply hand them to a printer and get a hardcopy.
Tasks can be shared with anyone who has an email address, and those recipients do not need to be members of Hiveminder to receive them. An extensive search feature can retrieve lists based on tags, dates, people, or other criteria.
Basic Hiveminder accounts will remain free (you will have to “Accept the terms and make our lawyers happy” when signing up), and they plan to expand on the service with paid premium features in the future.
