Open AJAX Alliance Grows

Share

Yet another company has joined the recently formed Open AJAX Alliance, an industry group focused on promoting and spreading AJAX. ICEsoft will stand by established (and esteemed) members such as Borland, the Dojo Foundation, Google, IBM, the Mozilla Corporation, Novell, Oracle, Red Hat, Yahoo, and Zimbra.

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML), a technique for creating Web-based applications that don’t require browser plug-ins, is known to allow easy and efficient interactions with said applications. A product by ICEsoft known as ICEfaces is the first AJAX Solution that enables developers to work within the development dynamic of Java, and to take advantage of any industry-leading IDE. ICEfaces also addresses issues of performance and scalability.

“While ICEfaces is fully Java EE compliant and provides significant advantages over AJAX solutions that require JavaScripting, we also must continue to ensure that our solution interoperates fully with other solutions in the industry,” said Chris Erickson, CEO of ICEsoft. “The Open AJAX Alliance provides a forum where the leading suppliers of AJAX solutions can work together to ensure the interoperability that our customers require.”

The Open AJAX Alliance has several clearly outlined goals, according to Scott Dietzen, president and chief technology officer of Zimbra. “We need to clearly define AJAX; clarify the mission of Open AJAX; endorse and improve AJAX platform technologies; endorse and improve AJAX design patterns; and last, but not least, improve the browser.”

The collaborative effort also wants to broaden the adoption of AJAX by concentrating on three primary goals: providing interoperability, and thus decreasing the risk of adoption; ensuring that AJAX solutions utilize open-source technology and obey open-source standards; and maintaining the Internet’s open nature.

The ICEfaces program should help the Open AJAX Alliance attain its goals, and in this way, ICEsoft may be a valuable addition to the Open AJAX Alliance.
