OneStat Confirms Google Position As Top Search Engine

Web analytics provider OneStat released a report that ranks which search engines are used the most, as well as the percentage of user share growth. OneStat’s report also lists the 7 largest search engines.

The report reveals that Google is the most used search engine, garnering a 56.4% share. Yahoo is 2nd with 21.1%. “Our real-time web analytics are the ultimate solution to measure traffic from search engines to a web site. Each web site owner and marketer can analyze what kind of search engines & keywords the visitors use to find a web site,” said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of OneStat.com.

Google’s global share increased .03% from in 5 months. A list of the top 7 search engines follows:

1. Google 56.4%
2. Yahoo 21.1
3. MSN Search 9.2%
4. AOL Search 3.8%
5. Terra Lycos 2.0
6. AltaVista 1.7%
7. AskJeeves 1.7%

OneStat’s findings are based on the last 2 months worth of usage.
OneStat compiles their reports using the following criteria:

“A global usage share of xx percent for search engine Y means that xx percent of the visitors of Internet users arrived at sites that are using one of OneStat.com’s services by using search engine Y. All numbers mentioned in the research are averages and all measurements are normalized to the GMT timezone. Research is based on a sample of 2 million visitors divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day.”
