nLayers today released the latest version of its flagship product, nLayers InSight, an agentless appliance that automatically uncovers ways to reduce IT costs by optimizing resource allocation within the application infrastructure.
nLayers InSight version 2.0 includes enhanced analytics that enable IT executives to apply nLayers’ unique application modeling capabilities toward specific initiatives aimed at reducing IT costs and mitigating risks while protecting application performance.
nLayers InSight tracks application relationships, dependencies, usage and demand over time and transforms this data into actionable information that IT executives can use to successfully implement a range of strategic initiatives, including server and application consolidation, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and audit, mergers and acquisitions, and disaster recovery planning. Version 2.0, which ships today, includes an integrated business intelligence module and the new nLayers InSight Solver(TM), a multi-stage IT optimization wizard that guides IT executives step-by-step through the application optimization process.
“nLayers’ definition of application optimization extends beyond just accelerating a discrete transaction,” said Gili Raanan, founder and CEO of nLayers. “Application optimization is the process of understanding the layout of IT resources — both physical and logical — and how they interact over time, in order to ensure that an organization’s IT resources are being used in the most efficient and effective manner based on the needs of the business. That’s the IT business need we solve.”
nLayers InSight is a self-contained appliance that connects directly into an IT infrastructure. The agentless appliance can be deployed in under 60 minutes, requires minimal operational training or maintenance, and does not disrupt the application infrastructure in any way.
Introducing the nLayers InSight Solver
nLayers InSight 2.0 introduces the industry’s first intuitive, multi-phased optimization wizard, the nLayers InSight Solver. Applying the relationship, dependency, usage and demand data from the nLayers Application Behavioral Model (ABM), the nLayers InSight Solver walks customers step-by-step through the following initiatives, pointing out ways in which to reduce costs and mitigate risk:
— Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance. nLayers InSight provides validation of compliance by documenting and verifying key financial applications.
— Consolidation. nLayers InSight Solver identifies applications, servers and services that are used the least within the infrastructure. It then assesses the impact of retiring them, makes recommendations for how to go about reallocating and consolidating, and identifies the risks and necessary steps for implementing a consolidation effort.
— Application Upgrades and Migration. nLayers InSight Solver can also identify applications, servers and services that are heavily used and are excellent candidates to be upgraded.
— Mergers & Acquisitions. nLayers InSight Solver can help customers minimize the impact of integrating acquired assets or transitioning away sold ones to ensure that business applications continue functioning without interruption.
— Disaster Recovery. nLayers InSight Solver’s detailed ABM information can be used to create and automatically maintain an accurate and up-to-date documentation of an organization’s disaster recovery plans.
Embedded Business Intelligence with Powerful Analytics
As part of a new, extended analytics module, nLayers InSight 2.0 ships with a leading third-party business analytics engine and includes pre-configured reports that provide IT managers with easily-understood, actionable illustrations of a company’s IT inventory, application dependencies, behavior and demand. The results can be viewed through the nLayers InSight console, printed, exported to PDF and exported to XML for easy integration with any third party reporting tools. In addition, nLayers InSight 2.0 enables customers to visualize application demand and behavior history for an unlimited amount of time — over days, weeks or months — so that they can compare changing application environments with established baselines or a desired application environment model.
More Options for Easier Application Optimization
User interface enhancements to nLayers InSight 2.0 are designed to allow customers to quickly and easily navigate through their complex application infrastructures. Features that have been upgraded include: rapid search capabilities; single-click access to server and service dependency, behavior and demand information; an enhanced time-based slider; and automated, intelligent application map layout algorithms.
