Publishing a Newsletter/eZine can be very rewarding in many ways. You’ll increase traffic to your Web site, continuously gain new subscribers and you’ll make a ton of new friends. Not to mention all the new things you’ll learn along the way.
PLUS, the extra sales you’ll make. It just stands to reason that the more people you can attract to your site, the more you’ll sell. A Newsletter will bring you these rewards.
Before we go any further some of you may be confused about the difference between a Newsletter and eZine. Basically there isn’t a difference.
The definition of an ezine is an electronic magazine. This was usually published at the Web site. An email was sent to subscribers with the link (Website URL) whenever a new issue was updated.
Newsletters were sent out to subscribers via email with the new issue embedded within the email. Nowadays the words are interchangeable and mean the same thing. Both of them are now sent to your email and/or online at a Web site.
Now let’s get into the basics of publishing a Newsletter that will be enjoyable and easy to do. You’ll look forward to each issue especially when you watch the subscriber base grow. It can be quite exhilarating and fun! So, let’s get to the basics now.
Newsletter Niche:
Describe what kind of newsletter you would be comfortable doing. If you are selling a book, another product or affiliate programs you still need the benefits of a newsletter. Ask yourself:
How Can I Help Others?
This is an important question because whatever you answer here is what will bring you subscribers. For myself, I’ve always had two objectives in my life. It is to write and to teach. And here I am incorporating them both into my life.
So write down all the ways you’d like to help others. We all have talents and skills that we can share. Whether it’s fixing cars, fixing hair or fixing food we know what we can do and we love doing it. That’s the charm that will keep you moving onwards.
Would the answer to the above question be a joy?
Again, this is another important question. Go through your list of talents and skills and cross off those even on the borderline of being least enjoyable.
You want to be excited about what you will offer to others. If that doesn’t come across your subscribers can’t get excited either and won’t return for another issue. So make sure it really interests you first. That rule applies to affiliate programs too. If you can’t stand behind it, then pass it over.
List Your Preferences:
The Internet is a gold mine of information. You do have to use precaution and always be aware of misinformation too. Chances are you already surf around and have gathered a wealth of information in your own particular field.
That’s what makes researching your chosen topic so much fun. And the more you learn, the quicker you become an expert on certain topics.
Now choose as many topics from your list as you’d like to share with others. If you want you can do a potpourri type newsletter. I did that with a newsletter I put out occasionally from Authors Den (http://www.authorsden.com/dallasfranklin). You’ll still find issues there if you’d like to check it out for ideas.
Most newsletters also carry an editorial. It helps subscribers get to know you, feel friendly towards you and trust you.
It doesn’t have to be long unless of course you are comfortable with a longer one. I also had a section for trivia and quizzes and riddles. I’d alternate between each of these depending on my mood. Subscribers loved all three so they were easy to please.
For the quiz questions, the winners got to share their favorite Website in the next issue. This is an idea you might want to incorporate into your Newsletter.
People naturally like interaction with others and this is one way you will find new friends. You get to know others online who have similar interests. It truly does make the world a smaller place.
I also shared half a dozen writing markets or sites of interest. This attracted a lot of writers to sign up. My potpourri section was mostly strange and interesting sites. I’d seen them through the week while browsing on the Internet. It was an easy newsletter to do and I still send it out but now it’s used mostly for updated writings I add to Authors Den.
So now you have the sections of your newsletter. Once you list everything in the order you want to present it, save it because that will be your template for each issue you deliver. You’re now on your way to meeting new people and sharing your knowledge along the way. Have fun while you watch your subscriber base grow daily.
