MySpace Upgrades Users’ Mobile Experience

Share

MySpace has launched a new version of its mobile site at m.myspace.com for people who use iPhone, Android, and Palm WebOS. This version is optimized to take advantage of the browsers and screen sizes of these devices.

The company says the new version allows users to navigate MySpace and take actions in a lot fewer clicks. In addition, it includes a mobile-optimized version of MySpaceIM, and notifies users of new MySpace activities, such as new messages, comments, IM messages, etc., as soon as they occur. There is also a redesigned Photos layout.

“While we are still hard at work on native applications on these and other mobile platforms, the mobile web provides access to 75% of our users on the go, and we want to create a great user experience across all platforms,” says John Faith, VP and GM, MySpace Mobile.

MySpace is not the only social networking site that is making improvements to its mobile design. Twitter announced that it intends to offer users a new and improved mobile experience soon. murdok points to a preview of this.

Social media is a big part of the reason mobile use is skyrocketing. MySpace and Twitter’s efforts highlight the need for any website to take into account optimization for different popular devices and mobile browsers.
