Jan. 30th Dubbed Intl Delete Your MySpace Account Day

Share

On my personal calendar, I’ve got Wednesday, January 30th more or less open – nothing of importance is happening.  But for one social network, Wednesday might get a little interesting, as a user has decided to make it International Delete Your MySpace Account Day.

Simon Owens lists ten reasons to leave for LinkedIn, Bebo, or pretty much anything else.  My favorites were numbers one and six: “You rarely log in to Myspace except to delete spam friend requests from nude webcam girls,” and “You visit someone’s profile only to have your eyes bleed because of terrible page layout with non-matching designs and font colors.”Jan. 30th Dubbed Intl Delete Your Myspace Account Day

Owens’s list seems to have struck a chord with many other MySpace users, as well – seven pat-on-the-back-type comments follow his original post.  Also, a number of nods take place following a Mashable article, and a Facebook group supporting the event has 25 confirmed guests.

At this rate, International Delete Your MySpace Account Day won’t bring News Corp. to its knees.  Still, there’s the possibility that some serious momentum will accumulate between now and then, and it’ll be interesting to see if there is much of a surge in traffic on January 30th (or a drop in the weeks following).

Your humble author will leave his MySpace profile alone, however; it’s pretty bare and 97 percent dead, but doesn’t seem to be doing much harm.
