Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview Out

Share

The newest release of Microsoft’s web browser provides several new features that current users of IE should welcome.

Microsoft disclosed the latest beta version of IE 7, this time in the form of Beta 2 Preview. A number of new features have found their way into the newest entrant in the line of IE browsers.

Tabbed browsing, RSS support, enhanced security, a toolbar search box, streamlined user interface…only the most cynical of tech writers would claim to have seen these features already in a different browser, which he currently uses regularly.

However, Microsoft has been working hard to make RSS a more significant part of the user experience with its browser, its forthcoming new version of Outlook, and the Vista operating system, which is also coming soon. Like it or not, Microsoft will be the company that makes or breaks RSS to the masses.

Microsoft’s IE team blogged about the release, and made the usual caveat about using beta software:

Should everyone install? First and foremost, all the usual warnings about “beta” software apply. Also, while most of the functionality is in place, the user experience is not done.
One commenter on the blog asked if it would be possible to fallback to IE6 if they choose to uninstall IE 7. The browser’s lead project manager, Christopher Vaughan, responded that the user would be left with IE6 “as you had it before you installed IE7.”
