Nacho Hernandez of Mexgrocer.com is excited about the future of search.
The Mexico City native is quick to point out, however, that so far nothing has been said about searching networks and personal computers.
There are three basic spheres where search can be used: your personal computer, your work network, and the outside world.
He says search currently covers the outside world very well but doesn’t touch on the more internal world of the user’s work environment and personal computer. Search of the future, he believes, will fill in this void by offering the option of searching personal computers and even office networks.
Who will be the first to pounce on this search technology? In his opinion, that technology is more likely to come from Microsoft than Google or Yahoo. He believes the Microsoft search engine will be more closely tied to the individual user’s computer.
However, Mel Nelson, an expert in ethical economical search engine optimization, believes this would open up a whole new world of lawsuits against Microsoft.
“There are plenty of products you can use to search your network internally,” Nelson said in a post on e-Business forum WebProWorld, “but it seems here that we are talking about third parties searching business networks and personal computers which would raise huge privacy issues, in my opinion.”
One attendee of the Search Engine Strategies conference in New York was working on developing search technology for Microsoft, further proof that the software giant is developing its own search products.
I’m guessing Microsoft probably had more people at the conference, which was a great opportunity for companies to learn about search products. Microsoft’s attendance is almost necessary, in my opinion, for success in the world of search.
