Google Struggles To Hire Foreigners

Share

Google co-founder Sergey Brin told financial analysts yesterday that it has been unable to hire foreign computer engineers as fast as it would like.

The Washington Post states, “Brin said the company’s inability to recruit more top-tier computer scientists and engineers abroad is slowing its plans to make Google available to users of cell phones and other portable devices.

“We are unquestionably not getting the quantity we would like,” Brin said, in response to a question about hiring during a multi-hour session with Wall Street analysts.”

According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt ‘most of the company’s foreign offices, to date, handle ad sales rather than focusing on research and product development’.

Google is in a desperate race to maintain overall growth while building market share in geographic areas such as Asia where it is not number one.

The New York Times covered the same finacial analyst presentation and found it strange that the Google CFO did not speak …

“Google summoned financial analysts to its headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., yesterday for its first major presentation since its public offering last August. But in four hours of speeches, company executives barely touched on the company’s finances.

“They had a formal presentation by their chef but not their chief financial officer,” said Mark S. Mahaney, an analyst with American Technology Research. “I have never been to an investor day where the C.F.O. didn’t speak.”

Indeed, Google’s top chef, Charlie Ayers, spoke to the assembled analysts and investors about the lunch he had prepared, featuring entrees like grilled pork tenderloin. The chief financial officer, George Reyes, moderated the presentation and answered a few questions, but did not give a formal talk.”
