Google, eBay Play Netball

If you want to discuss the business aspects of two major corporations, this article’s not for you.  We’re here to talk about netball and fundraising, since Google and eBay recently faced off in a game benefiting the RSPCA.Google, Ebay Play Netball

The last time Google and eBay played, eBay won.  By a lot, apparently – 23 to 17.  Also, for lack of better things to discuss on the Friday before Christmas, we’ll point out that Google has lost a cricket match, a slot car race, and two ultimate frisbee matches to Yahoo.

Australian Googlers managed to turn the company’s luck around, however, beating eBay by “a small lead” in this more recent netball competition.  “Finally, victory and a large shiny trophy were ours,” wrote Christine Knight on the Official Google Australia Blog.  “A fitting end to 2007!”

We’re reasonably happy for Google; the company was due for a win.  Much more pleasing, though, is the fact that an auction (“of a Google Doodle signed by the Google Doodler, Dennis Hwang”) and a half-time shooting competition raised more than $2,000 for the RSPCA.

Google Australia’s been involved in at least one previous RSPCA fundraising effort, and we’re hoping this is the start of a trend.  Hats off to eBay and its team for participating as well.
