Google Co-Founder Gets Personal

Share

Sergey BrinGoogle Co-founder Sergey Brin has started a new personal blog called simply – Too. “While Google is a play on googol, too is a play on the much smaller number – two,” writes Brin. “It also means ‘in addition’, as this blog reflects my life outside of work.”

Brin’s first substantial post reveals that he is at greater risk for developing Parkinson’s Disease than most people, but having found this out, he is happy that he can take measures to try and prevent it before it potentially affects him. “I feel fortunate to be in this position,” he says. “Until the fountain of youth is discovered, all of us will have some conditions in our old age only we don’t know what they will be. I have a better guess than almost anyone else for what ills may be mine — and I have decades to prepare for it.”

I can barely put the idea of finding the fountain of youth past Google as the company seems to dominate the world a bit more each day (even if some of the world has not succumbed yet [they’re working on it]), but that’s probably still a while away. In the meantime, Brin’s blog should let us get to know one of the guys behind the search and technology giant a little bit better.

The blog is supposed to reflect Brin’s life outside of work, but it’s hard to imagine that some nuggets of work life won’t slip in from time to time. Or on the other side of the coin, perhaps we’ll read about things on Brin’s blog that eventually lead to something Google does. Either way, you can bet that the media will be keeping close tabs on what Brin has to say.

Too

So far, the Too blog isn’t much to look at design-wise. In fact, it’s pretty much as simple as they come. I would not be surprised to see some more design elements added, but considering Google’s home page, he is probably a big fan of simplicity.

I wonder if Brin’s blog will inspire Page or Schmidt to start one. I wouldn’t put any money on it, but it would be nice to see each of them open up the way Brin’s doing, and let us really get to know the guys behind one of the most important companies of the past decade. Hopefully Brin at least will update his somewhat frequently.
