Google Announces AdSense For Mobile Applications Beta

Share

In many ways, Google is the company that AdSense built.  It makes sense for Google to extend the advertising solution into new markets, then, and the company’s doing exactly that with its fresh AdSense for Mobile Applications beta.

Susan WojcickiOn the Official Google Blog, Susan Wojcicki, Vice President of Product Management, explained, “After all, advertisers are looking for ways to reach potential customers when they are engaged with mobile content, and application developers are looking for ways to show the best ads to their users.”

Wojcicki also detailed how the beta will work by continuing, “AdSense for Mobile Applications allows developers to earn revenue by displaying text and image ads in their iPhone and Android applications. . . .  [W]e’ve created a site where developers can learn more about the AdSense for Mobile Applications program, see answers to frequently asked questions and sign up to participate in our beta.”

Given the reputation of the regular version of AdSense, along with how popular smartphones are becoming, this release is likely to cause quite a stir.  It may not be long before applications’ users start seeing a lot more ads, which they might or might not appreciate, but a lot more apps are also likely to come into existence.

The existence of more popular apps could then make smartphones seem even niftier, driving their adoption and feeding into a growth cycle.

Anyway, AdSense for Mobile Applications has already earned the approval of Howard Steinberg, Urbanspoon’s Director of Business Development.  You can view his testimonial below.
