Event Turns Spotlight on Blogging, RSS

Share

This week’s DEMO 2004 conference, the world’s launchpad for emerging technology, shined a spotlight on RSS and Blogging products.

The event, which was held in Scottsdale, Arizona, welcomed the largest number of international companies this year since its birth fourteen years ago, including DEMO’s first-ever attendance by a Chinese software company.

Two key focuses of the event were RSS and blogging technology, which have been highly publicized this year thanks, in part, to Google.

“2004 is the year that blogging will be recognized as a genuine, transformative technology instead of just a tool for those with an excess of hot air,” DEMO executive producer Chris Shipley said of the increasingly popular technology.

DEMO featured a panel discussion called “Rise of the Blog Nation,” which focused the evolution of blogging into powerful information and business software. One of the highlights included the announcement of the first-ever location-based blogging system that allows users to create, broadcast and share location-time information.

Tasso Roumeliotis, WaveMarket founder and chief executive officer, said, “WaveMarket extends recent, fast-emerging blogging technology into a wider circle. Any mobile handset user can now share information on anything — restaurants, safety warnings, missing children, truck tracking or buddy finder alerts.”

Defeating the limits of location, Six Apart, a leader in weblogging software, unveiled new personal weblogging features in its TypePad program allowing users to uploaded pictures, audio, and text directly from mobile phones and PDAs.

The demonstrations at DEMO 2004 offer an exciting glimpse into the future of blogging, bringing new possibilities for the uses of blogging for business as well as personal use.

As Shipley says, “While economies may slump and markets may falter, innovation never stops.”
