Revenge of the Sith hits theatres in just a couple of weeks and fans are wound up. The magazine Empire polled 40,000 followers in the U.K. of the George Lucas epic to find out which of the Star Wars movies ranks number one.
The Empire Strikes Back ruled the roost in the hen house of Star Wars films followed by Star Wars(the original) and Return of the Jedi. The most recent installments ranked 5th and 6th behind the yet unreleased Revenge of the Sith.
The top heroes were Han Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi(Ben) and Luke Skywalker. Top aliens included Chewbacca(“what a wookie”), Jabba the Hutt, jawas and Yoda. Jar-Jar Binks was nowhere to be found in the list of aliens.
Fans of the franchise have already begun lining up for tickets for the May 19th premiere of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The movie continues the saga started back in 1977 the director of American Graffiti, George Lucas.
The original, low-budget B-movie Star Wars catapulted Lucas into the big time with moviegoers lined around the block and then billions of dollars in merchandising sales for one of the first true blockbuster films. His attention to detail and phenomenal special effects created by his subsidiary, Industrial Lights and Magic(ILM) sent the movie series into hyperspace.
The Star Wars movies set ticket sales records that still hang around the top grossing films today. They still remain popular among the loyal followings of fans who dress like they’re favorite characters and conventions and premieres of the movies all over the world.
The diehard fans didn’t seem to be as receptive to the last two features but they still line up in droves and they will for the third one as well. May the Force be with them.
