BlogWorld Expo: How to Seduce Your Tribe and Create Raving Fans

Murdok anchor Abby Prince-Johnson attended the BlogWorld session entitled ” How to Seduce Your Tribe and Create Raving Fans “. The gist of this session from what I gather is about how new media and social media account for the biggest change in the worlds of both business and politics. Deborah Micek talks about “tribal marketing” with your “tribe” being your friends and followers.  Basically, you can “build a million dollar business without ever leaving YOUR island.”

(Murdok will be spending the weekend in Vegas. Bummer, right? But we will be working, reporting from the BlogWorld Expo and chatting up the brightest minds in the BlogWorldblogging business. Stay tuned to Murdok and Murdok Video for updates.)

“Twitter is the next revolution in blogging,” says Micek, but Facebook, MySpace and YouTube play big roles as well, as far as tools and technology. The reason for this is that with each of these, the driving force is you. “It’s not about the tool, first of all, it’s about you,” she says. She calls Twitter “Word of mouth marketing on speed.”

Why is tribal seduction the ultimate way to market? Micek highlights three reasons (or the three Ps if you will):

– People

– Participation

– Persuasion

“Tribal seduction is so effective because you’re giving them what they want,” says Micek. And what do they want? That’s where the three Es come in. New media marketing that is pleasurable is:

– Emotional

– Entertaining

– Engaging

When it comes to new media, there are a variety of different ways you can go. Micek highlights 5 different channels (which should be noted can overlap):

– Blogs

– Podcasts

– Online Video

– Social Networks

– Social Filtering

“New media is about the conversation,” says Micek. The new economy demands different marketing that what was once ample. In the new media marketplace, the market is the tribe, and you are the focus. New media is effective because as Micek says, “People are tribal, and business is personal.”

It is as important as ever to bring something interesting to the table, because “You’re not going to get followers unless you are influential,” as Micek puts it.
