The untimely death of the author who co-wrote the adventure travel guide “100 Things to Do Before You Die” has led many bloggers to create their own lists of things to do before making the final exit.
Dave Freeman, an advertising executive who co-authored the 1999 book with friend Neil Teplica, died on August 17 at the age of 47 after falling and hitting his head at his Venice, California home.
In “100 Things to Do Before You Die” the authors write: “This life is a short journey. How can you make sure you fill it with the most fun and that you visit all the coolest places on earth before you pack those bags for the very last time?”
The books recommendations included attending the Academy Awards and running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, to the more unusual, like taking a voodoo pilgrimage in Haiti and “land diving” in Vanuatu, which freeman said was the “original bungee jumping.”
On Julia Rosien’s blog she posted,” Search ‘Dave Freeman’ tonight and you’ll find hundreds of bloggers paying tribute to a guy who squeezed every drop he could out of his short life. Dave only finished half his list before he died, but I still call that a success.”
On the blog sdastroguy a post read,” Dave Freeman passed away this week. He was the author of ‘100 Things to Do Before You Die.’ That got me thinking of what is still left that I want to do in my life.”
“I’m at the age where I really need to start getting going on this. He was only 47 so that also gives me something to think about as well. You never know what might happen tomorrow so you better make the most of today.”
Blogger Paul O’ Donnell wrote,” The book not only inspired what is now practically its own genre of books (as well as movies like The Bucket List), Freeman’s title reminded mortal readers that time was limited.”
