It’s that time of year to round your kids up and get them ready to return to the world of academia, otherwise known as Back to School. To many, this time of the year is as big of shopping period as any of the other spending holidays, save Christmas.
Those looking to buy during these time periods are taking to web more and more, which usually means using a search engine of some kind to find the necessary school supplies. Because of this, it’s quite easy to measure what people were looking for while they were shopping online. Enter AOL, who did in fact measure the data while organizing their findings into a list of the top items searched during this time period. According to their study, it looks like the preppy, casual style will remain the focus of your back to school-ers.
The top four stores searched during this period are:
Abercrombie & Fitch
American Eagle
Gap
Aropostale
T-shirts led the way for top searched item of clothing, outpacing blouses and button-downs . For the female BTS-er, the top searched item of clothing belonged to the mini-skirt.

school supplies
general searches for school supply lists
Hi-tech gadgets also proved to be popular the Back to School crowd. Ipods were the most searched item in this category, followed by cell phones and the Sony PSP. Next-gen gaming was also represented well with Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 coming in at fifth and sixth, respectively.
