Google Talk Has Voicemail Now

The Google Talk team added some new features to the chat service, including the ability to leave a voicemail for someone, even if that person does not use Google Talk.

Users of Google Talk have a few new options for their enjoyment.

Voicemail in Google Talk can be used to leave a message for those users who have left their computers for a few minutes. After four rings, voicemail will pick up and the caller can leave a message.

If the recipient isn’t a user of Google Talk, the caller can still leave a message. That message will be delivered as an audio file attached to an email.

File transfer has been a highly-requested feature for Google Talk, and that is now available. Google Talk users can share files through a peer-to-peer connection, of any size and file type. On Windows XP, the file can be launched with its default application right from the Google Talk window.

The new feature supports drag and drop for transferring files. Users can alternately browse for files and send them across the chat session.

In the Google Talk window, the last new enhancement will show others what song is playing on one’s PC at the moment. Each time the music track changes, the display in the status window will change to show the new track there, too.
