A couple of new features at ApartmentRatings.com use one of Google’s newer services to help people plan their moves.
ApartmentRatings CEO Jeffrey Bencken noted a couple of changes to the apartment review site, as many people follow the trend of moving in July, the busiest month of the year for doing so.
The site has added a Moving Calendar powered by the Google Calendar service. Bencken explained more about the personalized online moving calendar:
Not only does the calendar provide a predefined list of suggested moving tasks, but also users can customize it, track progress, and export their events to external calendars such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal, and Google Calendar. The service is free and does not require registration.
The Moving Calendar prompts the user for moving dates, the type of property he is leaving, and the type of property that will be the new dwelling. It also asks if kids or pets or both will be part of the move.
Once that has been entered, ApartmentRatings displays a task list and a calendar. Items from the task list may be marked as completed, deleted if not relevant to the move, or new ones added as necessary. Each change updates on the calendar.
Customizing the Moving Calendar requires free registration. That will save the events, which as noted earlier can be exported into a trio of calendar products.
Events displayed on the online calendar can be clicked, to reveal a detail window about the event, export options, its deadline, and an external link to another resource like local search or articles on helpful topics like preparing a bag of items for the first night one moves into the new property.
The site also launched a separate service, called “What the Neighbors Pay.” It allows people to find out the average rental rate in over 270 metropolitan areas, as collected from 400,000 tenants over the past six years.
