I have developed a methodology to managing my increasing cache of RSS feeds. It works nicely for me so I thought I’d share it since it might be helpful to you.
These days I read my blogs in a mix of desktop and web-based aggregators and occasionally sync back in forth. Unfortunately I can’t get the readers I like the best – Newsfire, Newsgator Online and Google Reader – to sync, but that’s another matter entirely. While not perfect, this setup works great for all those blog feeds I crave. I don’t want to miss a single item in these feeds.
Beyond the blogs, however, there are a bunch of feeds that are high-volume that I want to at least scan, but I don’t need to read them all. These include news and meme feeds. My solution to managing these streams is to sandwich them around my important mail and Technorati feeds in what I call a feed dashboard.
Here’s a screen shot from my feed dashboard, which I manage with the Google personalized home page. On the left are news feeds, on the right are meme feeds and in the middle are my “me feeds.” Not bad, eh? What’s your feed management solution?
