Gary Price Leaves SEW For AskJeeves

Gary Price is moving on from Search Engine Watch, taking a job as Director of Online Information Resources for AskJeeves, which sounds like a very cool position, so congratulations are in order.

Gary will be tasked with conducting outreach to the library and education communities, have a hand in making sure library and education communities are considered in product development, and develop Smart Answers and sources for those.

Gary will still be writing at ResourceShelf and DocuTicker, his own sites, which will remain independent of AskJeeves. In fact, it even says that in the press release:

In addition to his former position on the editorial team at Search Engine Watch, Price is the editor of ResourceShelf and Docuticker, online news sources for online researchers, librarians, journalists and educators. Price will continue to contribute to both ResourceShelf and Docuticker, independently of Ask Jeeves. Price has been a frequent speaker at Search Engine Strategies, WebSearch University, Computers in Libraries, Internet Librarian and numerous other industry conferences.

Damn, I want a press release next time I get a job!

Anyway, I’m going to miss Gary at SEW, and I’ll have to subscribe to (ResourceShelf’s RSS feed. Taking Gary’s duties as SEW News Editor will be Barry Schwartz from Search Engine Roundtable (and Barry says it will not change his Roundtable blogging, just expand his coverage). Gary thanks a few people on the way out, while noting he’ll still be based in DC:

While most of the following people and avid SEW Blog readers were friends before I joined SEW (in other words they new of my work for ResourceShelf) a few extra special thank you’s to RustyBrick, Battelle, Om, Philipp Lenssen, Beal, Scoble, Zawodny, Rubel, Nathan Weinberg, Greg Linden, Michael Fagan, Loren Baker, Garrett, Nacho, Tara C., P&S at Pandia, and Daron and Brandy at WebmasterRadio.FM.

I wish Gary the best of luck, but frankly, he won’t need it. Anyone who reads SEW or ResourceShelf know the man always gets the job done, and Ask is going to be a little more interesting in the future. Maybe we’ll get an Ask blogger out of him? Enjoy your new job, Gary, you’ve earned it!
