Dating Site Ends Green Acres Love

Farmers need love too, daggum it. While city folks are a-sippin’ their lattes and ponderin’ the meaning of life, farmers are knee-deep in muck, yankin’ on the hind legs of a breeched calf. You ain’t gonna find girls in there, Mister, which is why Jerry Miller set up FarmersOnly.com, an online dating website for, well, farmers only.

It’s all about the niche markets these days. Since FarmersOnly.com was launched in May of last year, over 10,000 members have signed up to find love outside of the city.

A caricature of “American Gothic” greets website visitors with a tacked up note beneath that reads, “City folks just don’t get it.”

“I truly feel there is more of a need for this matchmaking site than any other singles site on the web,” writes Miller. “I’ve met a number of single farmers of all different ages with one thing in common–they were all having a difficult time finding someone special. Why? Let’s face it, how many new people do you meet working on the farm all day?”

This is exactly the plight of 23-year-old Iowan crop farmer Eric Fynaardt, as described in USA Today.

“In his town of 160 people, 10 are single. Two are women,” writes Laura Bruno.

Yikes! Them’s bad odds, ain’t they? Lawdy.

But the problem with most dating sites, says Miller is that there were too many mismatches. He tells the story of a young farm girl looking for love in all the wrong places (other online dating sites).

“What she found was that the city folks that dominated these online dating sites couldn’t relate to her lifestyle. They wanted to meet at 9:00 p.m. for a cup of coffee when she would typically be preparing (going to bed) for the next day, which started at 5:00 a.m.”

And so FarmersOnly.com is putting an end to the Green Acres relationship forever. Just think how nice it’ll be when you can finally get Internet access on your John Deer!

Jes goes ta show ya, there’s somethin’ fer everbody, you jes gotta know wut that somethin’ is.
