Answers Found In Opera

Nope, this isn’t a story about the “Three Tenors”. Opera Software added GuruNet’s Answers.com to their browser. Opera signed a partnership with the search engine to add an exclusive search feature to their browser.

According to the press release, Opera users will have access to the “full suite of Answer.com” as a dropdown search toolbar. Answers will also be available through the Encyclopedia, Dictionary and Translate menu items in the right-click context menus.

“Opera continues to create innovative products and services that appeal to dedicated, cutting-edge surfers looking for a better Internet browsing experience,” explained GuruNet Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Cutler. “We are confident that this enhancement to the Opera product line will be of tremendous value to their loyal users, help attract new fans, and increase usage and traffic for both companies.”

Accordingly, the profits generated by searches from this will be split between the two companies. The benefit for Opera will be another feature to compete against IE and Firefox. The benefit for GuruNet will be increased traffic.

The two companies have a hard road ahead carving out their niche in a vicious, cutthroat world of browsers and search engines. However, this should help them a little bit more.

Carsten Fischer, Desktop Product Manager for Opera Software added, “Opera focuses on delivering advanced Web technologies and offering features that other browsers don’t. Answers.com is yet another feature that will set us apart providing millions of Opera users with instant access to fast facts and reliable information.”
