Sybase To Extend iAnywhere

Sybase is working on acquiring mobile software solutions provider Exended Systems through a cash merger valued at about $71.3 million, or $4.460847 per share.

“The acquisition of Extended Systems is expected to enhance our portfolio of mobile middleware solutions and strengthen our geographic presence, particularly in Europe,” said Sybase Chairman, President, and CEO John Chen.

The deal is still subject to regulatory approval as well as approval from shareholders of Extended Systems, and other closing conditions. The deal is expected to reach completion some time in the fourth quarter.

“This acquisition will position Sybase with a powerful end-to-end information mobility offering that, when combined with our industry leading mobile database and mobile device management products, will enable Sybase to be in a great position to deliver on the benefits of the Unwired Enterprise,” said Chen.

After the transaction is complete, Sybase plans to integrate Extended Systems into its iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary.

“Extended Systems shares the Sybase vision of the Unwired Enterprise, and holds the same commitment to giving mobile users throughout the globe a true information edge,” said Extended Systems President and CEO Charles W. Jepson.

Extended Systems has been around for about 21 years, and will bring Sybase about 2,500 new enterprise customers from around the globe. Many of these will be in Europe.

Extended Systems is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. The company has about 180 employees in North America and Europe. There has been no word on if Sybase will keep all of them or not.

“By combining our powerful technologies and global channels, Fortune 500 customers worldwide will benefit from our continued innovation in mobile information management,” said Jepson.
