Bloglines Doubles Search Index

The importance of having a complete index should never be underestimated when it comes to search. All the relevance algorithms in the world don’t mean much if the indexes being searched aren’t the least bit comprehensive.

Apparently, this approach rings true to those involved with the Ask Jeeves-owned Bloglines.com, an enriched search engine dedicated to serving the blogosphere.

Bloglines Doubles Search Index According to a their latest press release, Bloglines has doubled the size of their search index in only 6 months. Currently, Bloglines boasts an index of 500 million blog and news feed articles. Bloglines also indicates they increase their index by adding 2 to 2.7 million new blogs and news feeds a day.

Offering more than just static search services, Bloglines also features a number of options designed to further embrace the blogosphere. They feature a subscription service, allowing regular visitors another method of keeping track of their favorite blogs. These favorites can be viewed on a personal Bloglines page, which includes user-tailored content. Bloglines also tracks various podcasts, email newsletters, comics, and newsgroups. To take advantage of these features, users must sign-up for a free membership.

Commenting about the announced index increase, Bloglines founder/GM, Mark Fletcher offered these thoughts, “The daily growth of blog and news feed articles is the most accurate measure of the blogosphere’s size and vitality. Bloglines has the largest database of blog and feed articles, the fastest growing index of dynamic web content, and the broadest set of integrated featuresmaking us the strongest blog resource on the Internet.”
