Alberston’s Restructures Management

Alberston’s Inc. is making big changes to its organizational structure in an effort to help it step up competition with other big name supermarket chains.

Albertson’s stores include Albertsons, Acme, Shaw’s, Star Market, Jewel-Osco, Sav-on Drugs, and Osco Drug, as well as Super Saver and Bristol Farms, which are operated independently.

The company’s executive vice president and CTO, Bob Dunst will now be taking on supply chain organization responsibilities as well. Hi new title is Executive Vice President-Technology and Supply Chain.

Clarence Gabriel who was the company’s Executive Vice President-Supply Chain and Asset Management, is leaving the company.

Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Paul Gannon is now getting the added responsibility of the company’s food operations. His new title is Executive Vice President-Marketing and Food Operations.

Bob Butler who was the company’s Executive Vice President-Food Operations, is retiring after 31 years.

Executive Vice President and CFO, Felicia Thornton will now add responsibility for the company’s Six Sigma Quality program and the Office of Enterprise Program Management.

Dunst, Gannon, and Thornton together will serve as members of the company’s Executive Council.

Albertsons Chairman, CEO, and President, Larry Johnston says, “These changes will drive higher levels of organizational efficiency as we consolidate management of these critically important functions under three of our talented senior leaders. As the company’s strategic plan continues to evolve, these moves will also help increase our focus on customers in local markets, improve program execution, and enhance the experience base of our senior leadership team.”

In morning trading, Albertson’s shares went down 31 cents, or 1.5%.
