Cathay Pacific Airways Expands Service

Cathay Pacific Airways announced the expansion of existing service between its Hong Kong hub and key cities around the world.

Starting this summer the carrier will add a third daily Los Angeles non-stop flight, and seven more weekly Beijing flights. Additional services between Hong Kong and Amsterdam, Ho Chi Minh City, Johannesburg, Nagoya and Perth will also be offered.

These new flights will further enhance Cathay Pacific’s global network, which now covers more than 90 destinations world-wide, and strengthen Hong Kong as a global aviation hub and gateway to the Chinese Mainland.

Cathay Pacific is the only airline that flies non-stop from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and offers more frequent services there than any other airline.

“Our two existing Los Angeles-Hong Kong flights are very successful and we are pleased to launch additional service with an afternoon departure and evening arrival time, which will offer our passengers greater variety and flexibility, as well as excellent connections to all Cathay Pacific code share destinations across the United States and throughout Asia,” said Cathay Pacific Senior Vice President, Americas Tom Wright.

The seven additional weekly flights to Beijing come soon after the recent launch of both daily cargo service to Shanghai and passenger service to Xiamen that operates three times a week.

Amsterdam and Johannesburg, now operating five and six flights a week respectively, will become daily services, and flights to Ho Chi Minh City will increase from daily to double-daily operation. Nagoya will add another seven services a week on top of its current double-daily schedule. Perth will increase from three to four flights per week, offering passengers a total of 52 direct flights to six Australian cities weekly.

Cathay Pacific Director Corporate Development Augustus Tang said: “Increasing the frequency of services to double and even triple-daily to key cities is an important part of our growth strategy. Additional and daily services to other cities create a more convenient product for our customers, strengthen our network and thereby enhance Hong Kong’s global hub and Mainland gateway position.”
