Dell Introduces Latitude Notebooks

Share

Yesterday, computer giant Dell introduced their new Latitude line of notebook computers, which targets the business sector from small businesses up to the State and Local government level.

Besides offering newer technology and faster performing notebooks, the Latitude line also introduces Dell’s Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.1), a security-based component designed to provide protection and data encryption.

According to The Register, “the system uses passwords and data on the smart card to decrypt data on the fly. All information stored on the hard drive is encrypted and can be explicitly tied to a given machine to prevent protected information being unlocked on a compromised computer.”

Dell’s new Latitude line also uses Intel Centrino’s Sonoma update for internal processing.

Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell’s Product Group, said, “These Latitude notebooks reflect Dell’s unique ability to incorporate direct customer feedback into every product. We have combined powerful new technologies such as PCI Express and DDR2 memory with outstanding performance, usability and reliability that our customers demand. We continue to listen to our customers to build and deliver the best technology and value.”
