Local Search Platform gets Local Web Search Features

PremierGuide announced the addition of local web search features to the company’s flagship local search platform.

PremierGuide’s new features allow consumers to find local businesses using information contained in local web sites in addition to the information contained in the local search directory. An integrated local search, that dynamically and intelligently blends local directory content with local web site content, makes it easier than ever for consumers to find local businesses, stores and restaurants on PremierGuide-powered local search sites. PremierGuide’s local web search features may be previewed at www.palo-alto.loqal.info.

“We believe that consumers should be able to search their local Yellow Pages directory, classifieds, coupons, newspaper ads, restaurant reviews and any other local content from a single search box,” said Malcolm Lewis, President and CEO of PremierGuide. “Extending our platform with local web search brings us, and the publishers and portals we serve, one step closer to realizing this vision of unified local search.”

Summary of PremierGuide Local Web Search Features

— Web-enhanced Directory Search

Find local businesses in a local search directory using keywords that don’t exist in the local search directory but can be found on local web sites that reference the local business. For example, a search for ‘Trek mountain bikes’ will find a local bicycle dealer that references Trek and mountain bikes on their web site. A search for ‘restaurant with patio dining’ will find any restaurant that mentions patio dining on their web site.

— Directory-enhanced Web Search

Search across a focused collection of local web sites – for example, one or more local newspaper sites, or a collection of local sites that include local classifieds, local coupons and local restaurant guides. With directory-enhanced web search, a search for a popular local restaurant might find a review in the local newspaper in addition to a business listing in the Yellow Pages directory. A search for ‘office furniture’ could find matches in local classifieds in addition to furniture stores in the directory. And a search for pizza might find local coupons in addition to pizza restaurants.

— Administration

Create and manage lists of local web sites to be included in local searches. Define the freshness, depth and breadth of indexed web content. Categorize web content to allow intelligent filtering – for example, classifieds, coupons, or restaurant reviews.
