Why Marketing Is Everywhere And How You Can Use It

Share

Marketing is everywhere. Some people proclaim that they never get swayed by advertisements. Or that they will never fall into any of the advertising “gimmicks” that marketers use.

Is that the case? As I’ve found out, these advertising “gimmicks” are found everywhere. From the fast food restaurant to the shopping mall, you’re bound to find some of these being used.

Now here’s the challenge for you. Take one of these powerful techniques and convert them for use in your own business. Adopt them for your own industry.

There’s a reason why such techniques are being used over and over again. They work. And now they can work for you too:

* Technique #1: When buying a new notebook computer, the salesman indifferently asked at the end of his sales pitch, “Are you paying by cash or credit card?”. Notice how he didn’t even ask whether I wanted the product, but went straight on to asking me how I would like to pay. This is an extremely powerful closer.

* Technique #2: The next time you’re at a fast food restaurant, pay attention to what the attendant says. Chances are that he / she will say, “Do you want to upsize your meal?” instead of “Do you want upsize or regular?”. The former has been found to increase orders because people find it more difficult to say “No!”

* Technique #3: I drove past a shop the other day that says, “The Best ____ in town” How many times have you come across outlets that say, “We sell the best shoes in town…” or “We sell the best pasta in town…”. Who gave them the credit? I’m sure no one did, but they claimed the title for themselves anyway. Don’t be afraid to make outrageous claims if you can.

* Technique #4: The price difference for an electronic gadget that is painted in a different color can be as much as a few hundred dollars. Are there any differences in the actual products themselves? No. But why does let’s say a black edition of a printer sell so much more than a plain white one? The truth is – People want to be different, and will gladly pay to stand out from the crowd.

* Technique #5: I received a “Charity Appeal” letter from an organization in my mail the other day. There was a solid object inside the letter which I could feel through the envelope. My curiosity was piqued so I opened the letter and read it… instead of throwing it into the trash bin. That object turned out to be an wooden chopstick that would have cost less than 20 cents to make. Is there something you can use to arouse curiosity?

Which of these ideas can you adopt and use for your OWN business, today?
