Everdream announced that salesforce.com has deployed Everdream Asset Management, Software Distribution, Patch Management and Online Backup to streamline IT operations and increase asset utilization and reliability.
Like many other companies with a decentralized workforce, salesforce.com faced the common challenge of managing software upgrades and patches for all PCs, regardless of location, in a timely manner. While various software tools were available, each of these tools addressed only parts of the problem. They were also cumbersome to install and integrate and required additional servers, training, and support. Given the critical nature of PC security, salesforce.com did not have the luxury of a lengthy and complicated software tool installation.
“Everdream and salesforce.com share a vision of the End of Software in which the Internet fundamentally changes information technology by enabling greater and greater levels of customer success,” said Jim Cavalieri, CIO at salesforce.com. “In keeping with this goal, Everdream’s hosted IT desktop management tools offer the features we need to be successful, at a price that makes sense. Its intuitive interface easily integrates with our platform, and as we continue to grow our commitment to customer success, we are confident Everdream will scale with our needs.”
Salesforce.com is now able to track and manage IT assets from procurement through refresh, including hardware and software inventory, ownership, and warranty/service information. They are able to manage all of their desktop support operations through a single console — the hosted Everdream Control Center. This secure platform allows visibility of PC hardware and software configurations, and provides key management tools and extensive real-time reporting.
Everdream’s patented Software Distribution service allows IT managers to securely deliver any application to any online user at any time, automatically, while Everdream’s Patch Management service can automatically identify, distribute and install necessary software patches on those systems vulnerable. The Online Backup service protects desktop and mobile PC users by securely and automatically backing up their data to fully redundant, off-site data facilities.
Everdream’s on-demand business model for IT services is similar to salesforce.com’s on-demand business model for CRM. Customers of both companies subscribe to a wide variety of applications that were developed specifically for the Internet, and are delivered over the Internet on an as-needed basis.
“As a pioneer of hosted software services, salesforce.com is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing companies in our industry,” said Gary Griffiths, president and CEO of Everdream. “Everdream also employs this model, developing managed and hosted services for IT management. We look forward to helping salesforce.com protect, manage and support their desktop and mobile computers.”
