General DataComm, announces the addition of SpectraComm SDT (Synchronous Data Transport) to its flagship NEBS Level III certified SpectraComm product line.
The SpectraComm SDT (SC-SDT) allows the transport of synchronous data traffic via standards based Ethernet. This is accomplished by encapsulating the synchronous traffic and transporting the information as if it were a LAN-based application.
“SpectraComm SDT represents a continuation of GDC’s product strategy and commitment to provide our customers the most complete suite of NEBS Level III Certified legacy support and IP products available, in a common managed platform,” said George Best, vice president for sales and marketing at General DataComm.
SpectraComm SDT supports three individually configurable ports and a single Ethernet uplink. Each synchronous data port is configurable for rates up to 2.048 Mbps. For applications over distances beyond the limitations of Ethernet, the SpectraComm SDT can be attached to any existing router for transport via the Wide Area Network (WAN) to the desired location. For new installations, GDC’s SpectraComm IP family of routers can provide WAN connectivity using T1/FT1, E1/FE1 or G.SHDSL
SpectraComm SDT also provides support for telemetry and security applications. Each SpectraComm SDT device provides up to eight contact input ports for sensing activation of an open or closed contact; and up to two contact output ports to open or close a local contact relay. SpectraComm ADT detects a contact change from its normal state and, depending on its configuration, will send an alarm trap, transport the contact state, or perform both trap and transport actions. A “clear” trap is sent when the contact returns to the normal state.
Flexible Packaging
SpectraComm SDT is well suited for flexible, reliable and secure deployment in any Carrier of Enterprise network. SC-SDT is easily installed in GDC’s high-density 16-slot SC 5000 shelf or for low density applications the 2-slot SC 2000 shelf. Standalone CPE applications are supported in single unit SC1001/1002 enclosures. Additionally, the SpectraComm SDT can also be installed in any DataComm Series shelf using GDC’s DataComm Blade adapter.
Robust Network Management
Designed with Carriers in mind, Service Provider craft personnel will appreciate the comprehensive yet simplified tools, diagnostics and management. This includes GDC’s Smart Command Line Interface (Smart CLI) with user friendly features like auto-prompting for command arguments, recognition of abbreviated commands, online help, command line recall and an advanced utility for generating downloadable ASCII configurations files. SpectraComm SDT also provides internet-ready management support (HTML). An embedded web server agent allows popular browsers to access the SC-SDT. A web-based CLI interface is also supported, with access secured by TACACS+ and a multi-level user name and password login. In addition, SC-SDT can be managed via HP OpenView, Telnet and SNMP.
SpectraComm SDT also supports GDC’s Auto-Tool, a comprehensive, high-level application for the administration of multiple units. GDC’s Auto-Tool streamlines and automates maintenance tasks like software upgrades, archiving configurations, and changing or downloading new configurations to multiple units simultaneously.
Available now, SpectraComm SDT is another example of GDC’s commitment to develop products and solutions based on application requirements of our service provider, carrier and enterprise customers.
