Plaxo Contacts To Feature Yahoo Search

Contact management software creator Plaxo has announced that their newest version of their Contacts software, 2.0, will feature Yahoo Search capabilities. The software integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. Yahoo Search will be the first search utility to be featured in a Microsoft email client. Plaxo Contacts 2.0 is due out in May 2004.

Users of Plaxo Contacts will be able to search the internet directly from Outlook. The Yahoo! Search window will be embedded in the Plaxo tool bar within Microsoft Outlook and Outlook express email clients.

“Yahoo! is continually seeking new ways to bring ubiquitous search access to Internet users,” said Tim Cadogan, vice president of Search at Yahoo, Inc. “By embedding Yahoo! Search in Plaxo 2.0, Yahoo! will facilitate seamless Internet searches for Plaxo’s fast-growing user base from within Outlook.”

Being the first to enable searches from Outlook is a major coup for Yahoo. Granted, you have to acquire Plaxo’s software before you have this capability.

Todd Masonis, co-founder and vice president of products, Plaxo Inc. said about the agreement with Yahoo, “Email and search are the two most popular activities online and we are pleased to team up with Yahoo! to bring these together in a single place — Plaxo 2.0. The most valuable Internet real-estate is not just in the Web-browser and desktop, but also in email, where users spend the majority of their time.”
